Fr Eugene William Sheeran.
Born in Kilkenny, Ireland, on 11 December 1911. He had five brothers and one sister. His father was a mounted policeman in the Royal Irish Constabulary. Eugene was ordained into the priesthood in Thurles, Ireland, in 1941 and it was intended from the start that he should work in Australia. However the war intervened and made the journey impossible. He therefore served as a chaplain to the US forces for a time. He died in a motorcycle accident in Australia on 24 September 1955, aged 43.
