Jack Hurley's Progress
Hi folks,
Jack has had a good week for his first week at the Royal Childrens Hospital rehabilitaion unit. He has got a great bunch of therapists and is in a good team environment. He has music therapy where he can pretend he is the lead singer in the Fall out boys and bang on drums...all the tricks to get those words coming. This week he will be getting into swimming and hopefully the RCH school may set him some challenging tasks.
His right hand is moving better with each day and he is now writing legibly with this hand. It was only one week ago when he tied his shoelaces for the first time and represents the continued rapid improvement in motor function.
He beat Wendy in a game of Blokus so spatial skills are moving ahead. He is happy and even got into the family cricket match on Australia Day.
The speech is moving forward slowly and this will remain his biggest hurdle. Understanding is now up to basic single statements and his single word usage is diversifying. No conversation as yet but I do not think this is far away. This is the main focus for therapy now. Wendy and Jack will be heading back tomorrow for this weeks session.
He is enjoying his sleep and family. He remains positive and is keen to start school. He is accepting that this goal is being put on hold.
We as family have all enjoyed being back as the full team this weekend. What a great way to celebrate Australia Day!
Thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts. We are so grateful and know it helps enormously in Jack's healing. Please continue.
Love and best wishes, Tom and Wendy
